Ransomware is a serious threat, and it’s only getting worse. Many practices assume that they are too small to appear on a hacker’s radar, and are not prioritizing cybersecurity like they should. This is a mistake. Hackers have been known to target individuals and small businesses as lack of preparedness makes them an easy target.
CureMD sat down with two security researchers at ESET, a company that makes internet security solutions that keep individuals and businesses protected from cyber threats, hackers, and cybercriminals. We covered a range of topics from how real the threat is, to what makes a good back up strategy. We also discussed risky behaviors that make a practice more vulnerable to hackers.

I work in Methodist Hospital in Henderson which was recently struck by Locky as well, an attack that prevented us healthcare providers from accessing important patient files. The facility declared a “state of emergency” on a Friday but by Monday was reporting that its systems were “up and running.” Methodist officials had to restore the hospital’s data from backups in lieu of paying for ransom. Thanks for sharing this interview. I hope a lot of practices in the future can protect their workflow from the hazards of this menace.
