What is Meaningful Use?

This Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Care Record (EHR) Incentive Program, commonly known as the Meaningful Use program, provides incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) as they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.

Who is Eligible?

A Medicare Eligible Provider (EP) is defined as a doctor of medicine or osteopathy, doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine, doctor of podiatry, doctor of optometry or a chiropractor who is not hospital-based. A Medicare EP is considered hospital-based if 90% or more of the EP's services are performed in a hospital inpatient or emergency room setting.
